Q : How do you test for an A/C system leak?

A: First we have to start by making sure the is the appropriate dye in the system that usually will glow under a black light. Once there is dye we run the A/C system to let it circulate if, we don't see anything we use a "sniffer" which is a special device that can hone in on the refrigerant's chemical compounds to detect leaks.

FAQs

Q: Why won’t my car start?

A: There are numerous reasons why a vehicle won’t start. If it’s related to the battery, the starter will generally not crank the engine. This is the telltale “click, click,” when you turn the key. This could be an alternator not charging the battery properly, a loose battery or starter cable, or a battery that needs to be replaced.

Q: is it a dead battery or alternator?

A:  Sometimes it’s hard to tell whether you have a bad battery or a bad alternator. Certainly, if you have a series of failed batteries all in a row, that points to the alternator. Additionally, try jumping your car. If the battery dies while the car is still running, that means the alternator isn’t doing its job properly, and needs to be repaired or replaced.

  • You experience vibration when turning
  • The steering wheel pulls to the left or right
  • The steering wheel is not straight when driving on a straight roadway
  • Your tire tread is wearing unevenly

FAQs

Q: How do I know if my car needs an alignment?

vehicle wheel alignment should be inspected at least annually, and corrected without delay when the check shows the alignment is out of manufacturers’ specs. During your ordinary driving life, if your steering wheel is off center but the car is driving straight or the steering wheel is centered but the car isn’t driving straight, it’s probably time for an alignment.  If the car wanders from side to side on the road, it’s time to seriously consider an alignment.

Q: Why is a wheel alignment so important?

Perhaps you argue that you don’t have time for a wheel alignment, and you don’t care about anything like gas mileage. However, wheel alignment problem is more serious than this. It can affect your driving safety. Your wheels can’t respond to your commands instantly and perfectly, they won’t turn to the exact direction you want them to go. This is very dangerous when you are in some emergency situations. On the other hand, having the wheels aligned normally takes less than one hour.

Tire Balancing

When do wheels need to be balanced: Tires are balanced when you replace 2 or 4 tires on your automobile. Because tires wear depending on driving routines and road conditions, unequal wear will start to become recognizable after the first 1,000-2,000 miles of usage. Tires must be checked for balance every 4,000-6,000 miles. Our technicians can easily help identify whether your tires should be rotated and balanced based on wear or mileage.

IMPORTANT: It is not advised to replace just one tire as this might create major problems to the alignment, balance and handling of the vehicle.

The benefits of balanced tires are:

  • Smoother ride
  • Better miles per gallon
  • More even tire wear
  • Prolonged life of tires and drive train parts

Tire Repair Process

  1. Remove tire from the rim
  2. Thorough inspection of both the inside and outside of the tire
    • Although a tire may appear to be a simple fix from the outside, the bottom half of the nail could have caused potential damage to the interior sidewall

  1. Once deemed repairable, trim the puncture area of damaged cables to clean and stabilize the area
  2. From the inside out, pull a rubber stem through the puncture area sealing off the inside of the tire
  3. From the inside, buff the puncture area then apply special vulcanizing glue
  4. A patch is then installed on the inner liner over the puncture area causing a chemical reaction
  5. Tire is then mounted back on the rim, inflated to the proper tire pressure and the repair is checked for leaks

FAQs

Q: Why did my tires wear so quickly?

Premature tire wear may be caused by many factors other than tire rotation. Some examples are as follows: improper inflation, driving conditions, misaligned vehicles, worn vehicle parts and a variety of other reasons.

Without physically inspecting the tires, it is difficult to make a determination as to why your tires wore prematurely. Please visit your nearest Tires Plus and have one of our trained professionals inspect your tires free of charge.

Q: is it easy to see when my tire pressure is low?

No. Tire pressure is tough to judge on sight alone. Tires can be well under 50% inflated before it’s noticeable to the eye. This is why it’s so important to check your tire pressure monthly with an accurate tire gauge. Try to do so in the morning before they’ve been driven on in order to get the most accurate reading.
